A War on Two Fronts Has Come to Canadian Farmers

Canadian farmers are facing a war on two fronts. Last Thursday, China implemented tariffs on Canadian canola oil. In a couple of weeks, the U.S. will impose tariffs as well. This double blow from two major trading partners is creating a gloomy mood among Canadian agrarians ahead of the spring planting season, writes https://xrust.ru/. The situation is exacerbated by a sense of helplessness, as seeds and agrochemicals have already been purchased. On March 8, China announced that tariffs on Canadian agricultural and food products worth over $2.6 billion will come into effect on March 20. This is essentially a response to the Canadian tariffs that were introduced last October. The tariffs correspond to 100% and 25% import duties that Canada imposed on Chinese electric vehicles, as well as steel and aluminum products just over four months ago. China stated that it will apply a 100% tariff on Canadian canola oil, canola meal, and pea imports worth just over $1 billion, as well as a 25% tariff on Canadian seafood and pork worth $1.6 billion.
