An elderly man turned out to be young at heart – he drove a car down the Spanish Steps in Rome.
An elderly man, while driving his car, recreated stunts from “The Italian Job” or “Mission Impossible.” He drove his car halfway down Rome’s famous Spanish Steps. A passerby recorded the incident on video. The elderly man was later detained by the police, as reported by https://xrust.ru/. He was tested for alcohol and drugs but turned out to be as clean as a whistle. The elderly driver admitted that he had mistaken the road. Police joked that even young people sometimes confuse railways with highways. The unfortunate man told two guards who approached him that he was simply trying to get to work. Judging by the complete absence of sunlight, it must have been early morning. The guards called the police, who responded to the rather unusual situation. City officials stated that the matter should be investigated – perhaps the man was following GPS navigation, which directed him to take a shortcut. If so, the navigation service should be addressed. After all, a crane had to be called in to remove the car from the steps. The car itself was firmly stuck on the steps.
The Spanish Steps, offering a steep connection between Piazza di Spagna and Piazza Trinità dei Monti, are a popular attraction for tourists visiting the city. This incident has made the steps even more intriguing.
