An old man turned out to be young at heart – he drove a car down the Spanish Steps in Rome.

An elderly man, driving his car, appeared to replicate stunts from “The Italian Job” or “Mission: Impossible.” He drove his car halfway down the iconic Spanish Steps in Rome. A passerby recorded the incident on video. The man was subsequently apprehended by police, as reported by https://xrust.ru/. He was tested for alcohol and drugs but turned out to be as clean as a baby. The elderly driver admitted that he had mistaken the road. Police jokingly remarked that even young people sometimes confuse railway tracks with highways. The poor man told two security guards who approached him that he was just trying to get to work. Judging by the complete absence of sunlight, it must have been early morning. The guards called the police, who responded to the rather unusual situation. City officials stated that an investigation was needed – perhaps he was following GPS directions that suggested a shortcut. If so, they said, the navigation service should be addressed. After all, a crane had to be called in to remove the car from the steps. The car itself had firmly lodged its undercarriage on the stairs.

The Spanish Steps, offering a steep connection between Piazza di Spagna and Piazza Trinità dei Monti, are a popular tourist attraction in the city. This incident has made the steps even more famous.
