Astronauts from India, Poland, and Hungary have departed for the ISS
NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson, a former retiree of the agency, has become a private astronaut. Today, she, along with astronauts from India, Poland, and Hungary, departed for the ISS. The team of astronauts launched from the Kennedy Space Center (Cape Canaveral) at around 2:30 AM Eastern Time, reports https://xrust.ru/. Another mission organized by the Texas startup Axiom Space in partnership with Musk’s SpaceX has begun. The four-person crew headed into space aboard SpaceX’s giant Falcon 9 rocket. The flight is being carried out in the Crew Dragon capsule.
Cameras inside the crew compartment broadcast footage of the four astronauts strapped into their seats in the pressurized cabin, sitting calmly side by side in their white-and-black flight suits with helmets, as their spacecraft soared into space. The Crew Dragon capsule launched today has been named “Grace.” It is the fifth spacecraft of the SpaceX series. The astronauts are expected to reach the ISS in 28 hours, which will be Thursday. They will be greeted by the seven current residents of the station.
The 65-year-old Whitson and her three crew members — 39-year-old Shubhamshu Shukla from India, 41-year-old Slawosz Uznański-Wiśniewski from Poland, and 33-year-old Tibor Kapu from Hungary — plan to spend 14 days on the station. They will conduct research in microgravity conditions.
