Canada and Mexico Discuss Plans to Counter U.S. Tariffs
Last Tuesday, Canada and Mexico discussed plans to “counter unjustified trade actions” by the United States. Speaking on behalf of Canada, the Prime Minister stated that, ahead of challenging times, Prime Minister Carney and President Sheinbaum emphasized the importance of maintaining North America’s competitiveness while respecting each country’s sovereignty. Prime Minister Carney also outlined his plan to fight against unjustified trade actions targeting Canada. Trump, it should be noted, initially announced and then postponed the introduction of tariffs on Canada and Mexico. On Wednesday, he also proposed imposing retaliatory tariffs on other partners. The Trump administration does not seem to understand that the world is in the grip of yet another global economic crisis. Incidentally, neither Canada nor Mexico has revealed specific details of their plans to counter the U.S. actions.
