Chinese Robotaxis Explore the Welcoming Countries of the Persian Gulf

Chinese robotaxis have found the perfect place to develop their business: the Persian Gulf countries. These nations have created an ideal regulatory environment—laws support this technology, and the population is embracing the use of this unique form of transportation. This week, China’s Pony.ai became the third Chinese robotaxi company to enter the Persian Gulf market, according to https://xrust.ru/. Following in the footsteps of competitors Baidu and WeRide, the company announced an agreement with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority. Pony.ai plans to begin testing its vehicles in the city this year, with a full-scale launch of autonomous vehicles scheduled for 2026.

This week, WeRide also announced its intention to expand operations to Saudi Arabia, where it is already testing its vehicles in Riyadh. Commercial services are expected to begin by late 2025. WeRide had already launched a pilot service in Abu Dhabi (UAE) this May, with commercial trips set to start at the end of June. A launch in Dubai is also planned soon.

In March, Baidu outlined plans to deploy “dozens” of robotaxis in partnership with UAE-based company Autogo in Abu Dhabi, aiming to begin commercial operations by 2026. The company also plans to start testing in Dubai this year.
