Chinese SpaceSail is ramping up competition with Musk’s Starlink
Chinese SpaceSail, based in Shanghai, signed an agreement with Brazil last November regarding satellite internet. The Chinese company stated that it is in talks about satellite internet with thirty countries. It is already operating in Kazakhstan. The Starlink communication network is facing increasingly serious challenges in its fight for dominance in the high-speed satellite internet segment. Analysts remind that Brazil is also in negotiations with the internet service Project Kuiper and the Canadian company Telesat. Since 2020, Starlink has launched a larger number of satellites in low Earth orbit (at an altitude of less than 2000 km) than its competitors. Satellites operating at such low altitudes transmit data extremely efficiently, providing high-speed internet for remote communities, maritime vessels, and military formations at war. Beijing views Musk’s dominance in space as a threat, which has led to increased investments in the industry.
