Google will remove an Android app feature that failed to gain popularity
Google launched Android Instant Apps back in 2017. The feature offered users the ability to try certain apps without fully downloading them. By introducing this functionality, Google aimed to help people save time and phone storage, as noted by https://xrust.ru/. However, few people made use of this well-intentioned feature. Now, the company plans to discontinue the service in December.
This functionality was also convenient for the mobile gaming industry, as many gamers were deterred by long game download times. However, developers needed to participate in the initiative by reducing the size of their creations to a mere 15 MB—a challenging task. Overall, Instant Apps didn’t manage to attract much attention, although apps like the budget retailer Wish and the video-streaming platform Vimeo briefly integrated the feature at some point.
Instant Apps are not entirely gone yet. Support will remain in the Google Play Store until December 2025, after which all Google Play Instant APIs will cease to function.
