James Bond – a real guy or a fiction?
Some claim that James Bond was based on a real person by Ian Fleming. Others think that having so many adventures for one guy is a bit much. Recently, it was revealed that James Bond did indeed exist. However, he was vastly different from the super-spy of Her Majesty’s Secret Service. He was an American ornithologist. Fleming had one of his books in his library. This book was titled “Birds of the West Indies.” It was published in 1936 and was the culmination of his ten years of research on the Caribbean islands. The book, with 460 pages, was adorned with 159 black-and-white illustrations. It became a primary source of information for Fleming, who lived in Jamaica, and many others. The real Bond wasn’t particularly interested in Fleming’s works or the films featuring the spy with the same name. But his wife reached out to the British author, stating that he “shamelessly took the name of a real person for his villain!” Fleming apologized in a letter to Mary Bond and made three generous offers. He granted Bond the right to unlimited use of the name Ian Fleming for any purpose.
