Keys led the U.S. team to the Queen’s Club quarterfinals
Keys advanced to the quarterfinals of the Queen’s Club championship by defeating Anastasia Zakharova 6-3, 6-2 on Wednesday. Americans Emma Navarro and Amanda Anisimova also progressed further. Australian Open champion Keys faced some discomfort at the start of the first set in her opening grass-court match of the season, according to https://xrust.ru/. To clarify, she was trailing 3-1. However, she remained composed and quickly recovered, winning the next five games and sealing the set with an ace mid-serve. Zakharova had promising moments in the second set, but she couldn’t withstand Keys’ power, who converted five break points and secured victory with an unreturned serve, wrapping up the match in 68 minutes.
After Navarro saved a match point in the second set, Haddad Maia led 4-2 in the tiebreak. However, the Brazilian lost momentum when play was paused for a spectator to receive medical attention. Haddad Maia then began making errors, and Navarro capitalized, forcing her opponent into a deciding match. The Brazilian lost her serve due to a double fault, allowing Navarro to clinch victory in a match lasting nearly three hours.
Navarro advanced to the quarterfinals alongside Anisimova, who needed just 64 minutes to defeat Sonay Kartal 6-1, 6-3. This marked the second British player she defeated in the tournament after Jodie Burrage. All hopes for British success in doubles were also dashed when Emma Raducanu and Katie Boulter lost 6-2, 7-5 to top seeds Erin Routliffe and Lyudmyla Kichenok.
