Labubu sold at auction for over $150,000

Labubu, a rare first-generation figurine, was sold for $150,000 at an auction in Beijing. The event was dedicated specifically to toys that have conquered the world. Labubu, a 51-inch mint-green figurine with a gremlin-like appearance, sharp teeth, and a mischievous smile, went for $150,000 at the international Yongle auction, reports https://xrust.ru/. The auction typically showcased jewelry and contemporary art. Today, Labubu is considered one of the trendiest soft toys on the planet, created by Hong Kong illustrator Kasing Lung and sold by the Chinese toy giant Pop Mart. In recent months, these creatures—with a rabbit-like body and elf-like face, equally grotesque and charming—have gained massive popularity, sparking a frenzy worldwide and, in some cases, even fights between fans in front of stores where they are sold. Even in China, where Pop Mart is based and most of its toys are produced, it is difficult for people to get their hands on a Labubu. A total of 48 Labubu figurines were sold at the auction, which was declared the “world’s first” auction of first-generation collectible Labubu figures.
