Microsoft will discontinue the Remote Desktop app in May

Last Monday, Microsoft announced that the outdated Remote Desktop will no longer be supported. The date has been set – May 27, 2025. However, there is no need to panic. The corporation provided some clarifications, as reported by [xrust](https://xrust.ru/). Starting from May 27, Remote Desktop for Windows from the Microsoft Store will no longer be supported. The app will also disappear from stores. Users will need to switch to the Windows app. There is a built-in “Remote Desktop Connection” app in Windows, which will remain the only way to use connections via the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) after May 27. Ultimately, Microsoft will integrate it into the Windows app. Microsoft had previously warned that it would eventually replace Remote Desktop with the Windows app when the eponymous operating system application was launched last fall. The new app even appeared as an update for the Remote Desktop client in the Apple App Store. A reader noticed some confusion in the news. This confusion was also noted by Americans, who understood that “Windows” refers to both the app and the OS. They suggested firing some Microsoft specialists for the mix-up.
