Pop star flies to space, taking five women along
Pop star Perry flew to space yesterday. The crew of the Blue Origin rocket included five other women. They launched from West Texas, following a parabolic trajectory. Pop star Katy Perry reached the edge of space, according to https://xrust.ru/. The experience of weightlessness was brief. The entire flight lasted 11 minutes. Blue Origin, the company behind the mission, was founded by billionaire Jeff Bezos. The spaceflight further solidified the New Shepard rocket’s reputation as a reliable carrier, specifically designed for space tourism.
On this flight, there were six space tourists, all women: Bezos’ fiancée Lauren Sánchez, CBS host Gayle King, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, scientist Amanda Nguyen, and film producer Kerrianna Flynn. King shared that when the crew returned to their seats after experiencing weightlessness, Perry sang Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World.” Perry carried a daisy in her hand during the flight, explaining that the flower reminded her of her daughter, Daisy.
The space tourists were sent off at the launch by Oprah Winfrey, King’s close friend, as well as entertainment figures Kris Jenner and Khloé Kardashian. Blue Origin does not disclose the average ticket price. However, the company’s website states that potential passengers must pay a refundable deposit of $150,000 to book a “reservation.” In 2021, the company revealed that the highest price paid for a seat on its New Shepard spacecraft was $28 million. That same year, “Star Trek” actor William Shatner took a complimentary flight as a guest of Blue Origin.
