Pop star Katy Perry traveled to space yesterday. The crew of the Blue Origin rocket included five other women. They launched from West Texas. The flight followed a parabolic trajectory. King shared that when the crew returned to their seats after experiencing weightlessness, Perry sang Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World.” Perry launched holding a daisy in her hand—a flower, she explained, that reminded her of her daughter, Daisy. At the launch site to see off the space tourists were Oprah Winfrey, a close friend of King, as well as entertainment figures Kris Jenner and Khloé Kardashian. Blue Origin does not disclose the average ticket price. On its website, the company states that potential passengers must pay a $150,000 refundable deposit to place a “reservation.” In 2021, the company announced that the highest price for a seat on its New Shepard spacecraft was $28 million. That same year, “Star Trek” actor William Shatner took a complimentary flight as Blue Origin’s guest.
