“Resurrection” by Bi Gan Amazes Cannes Film Festival – Audience Applauds for 7 Minutes

Bi Gan brought his new film “Resurrection” to the Cannes Film Festival. His last film, “Long Day’s Journey into Night,” was released in 2018. The world premiere of the Chinese director’s latest work received a seven-minute ovation at the Grand Théâtre Lumière, as reported by https://xrust.ru/. The main roles are played by Yi Jackson, Shu Qi, and Yang Nan. The story takes place in a world where humanity has lost the ability to dream. Some rebel against this by living solely in the world of dreams. In the prologue, a woman — gifted with the ability to perceive these illusions as they truly are, according to the Cannes Film Festival logline — ventures into this final world to rescue one of the dreamers. This leads, as reviews describe, to “vignettes that seem to lack any plot or resolution at all, which is undoubtedly cool as a concept but not exactly fun to watch.”

The film, which reportedly received a lukewarm reaction in the theater (or perhaps the audience was simply tired after the 155-minute screening), was shown late Thursday evening, on the penultimate night of the festival. The Palme d’Or award ceremony will take place on Saturday evening, marking the close of the 2025 festival.
