Scarlet – Mamoru Hosoda’s animated film will be released in December 2025
Scarlet, directed by Japanese master Mamoru Hosoda, will premiere for North American audiences on December 12. The film has been nominated for an Academy Award. Sony Pictures, which is co-producing and co-financing the film alongside Studio Chizu and Nippon TV, announced the release date last Monday, reports https://xrust.ru/. Sony will distribute the film in the U.S. and globally, except in Japan, where Toho is handling theatrical distribution. Scarlet tells the story of a brave princess who transcends time and space. Hosoda’s previous works include *Belle*, *Wolf Children*, and *Mirai* from 2018. The latter was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature following its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. Yuichiro Saito and Nozomu Takahashi from Studio Chizu are producing *Scarlet* alongside Toshimi Tanio from Nippon TV. Hosoda is the founder of the production house Studio Chizu. Many of the screenwriter and director’s fantasy films have been inspired by observing his own children and his ongoing interest in family dynamics, including *The Boy and the Beast* (2015) and *Wolf Children* (2012).
