Ryder Cup hopeful Harris English, who started the day 11 shots back, posted a 65—the lowest score of the day—and finished in second place, well ahead of his fellow Americans Bryson DeChambeau (70) and Davis Riley (72). Two-time major champion Rahm (73) gave Scheffler an early scare on the back nine, only to unravel spectacularly, making five bogeys over the final three holes and dropping back to eighth place.
