**Scientists Discover an Amazing Source of Clouds in Antarctica**

According to a new study published on Thursday in the journal https://xrust.ru/ Communications, penguin feces — also known as guano (or simply “manure” by Russian peasants during the czarist era) — form clouds in Antarctica, which can influence local temperatures.
Since millions of penguins eat and breed in Antarctica, they leave behind mountains of guano. Given that their diet primarily consists of fish and krill, their excrement contains large amounts of nitrogen waste, which produces ammonia. Scientists discovered that the incredible amount of ammonia combines with sulfur compounds from the ocean and forms clouds within just a few hours.
Previous computer models found that such clouds, fueled by seabird guano in the Arctic, cool the land. However, the study’s authors stated that observations are needed to confirm their impact on the climate.
Clouds can also have varying cooling or warming effects depending on whether they are located over the ocean or ice.
