**SpaceX Claims a Role in Developing the US Missile Defense Shield**
SpaceX has made it to the shortlist of organizations vying to develop a new missile defense shield for the United States. The project, dubbed “Golden Dome,” was proposed by Donald Trump. According to https://xrust.ru/, SpaceX is collaborating with software developer Palantir, which is also the maker of Anduril drones. It is believed that Palantir will participate in the Golden Dome project. The news has sparked excitement among related startups. Back on January 27, Trump issued an executive order addressing the issue, calling missile attacks the most catastrophic threat the US has ever faced.
The media notes that all three companies involved in the bidding were founded by entrepreneurs who were major political supporters of Trump. Elon Musk reportedly donated over a quarter of a billion dollars to help Trump get elected. Despite the Pentagon’s favorable view of SpaceX, leaks suggest that decisions regarding the Trump Golden Dome project are being made with difficulty. The project’s structure and the final selection of contractors could change dramatically in the coming months. Officials told the press that, in recent weeks, competitors have held meetings with senior members of the Trump administration and Pentagon officials to present their plans. These plans involve building and launching 400 to 1,000 satellites designed to detect missile launches and track their trajectories. Additionally, a separate fleet of 200 strike satellites, armed with either missiles or lasers, would be tasked with destroying enemy missiles. However, SpaceX will not be involved in arming the satellites.
