The actress of the series “Funny Girl” celebrated her 83rd birthday
On April 4, Barbra Streisand celebrated her 83rd birthday. She has spent six decades in the business of comedy and entertainment. Her journey began more than 60 years ago when she debuted as a performer in New York City’s nightlife, writes https://xrust.ru/. Her desire to become a star culminated in 1962 when she made her Broadway debut as Miss Marmelstein in the production “I Can Get It for You Wholesale.” In the show, based on Jerome Weidman’s 1937 book, the 19-year-old Barbra played her first leading role, alongside none other than Elliott Gould, who portrayed Harry Bogen. This role was also Elliott’s first major role on stage at the age of 23, having previously debuted in a minor role in the musical “Rumple” in 1957. The pair met while working on the musical in 1961 and quickly fell in love, which became evident by the time the show opened in March 1962. The show received positive reviews and closed in December after 300 performances.
Even though Barbra and Elliott played secondary roles, their collaboration on stage (she played the secretary to his character) contributed to the development of their romance, which blossomed behind closed doors by the time the show ended. This show became a breakthrough for both of them, but especially for Barbra, who was nominated for a Tony Award in the category of Best Featured Actress in a Musical and won the New York Drama Critic Award for Best Featured Actress.
By this time, she had begun appearing regularly on television, becoming a favorite of Johnny Carson on *The Tonight Show* in 1962–63. In 1963, she released her debut studio album, *The Barbra Streisand Album,* which became a bestseller and won three Grammy Awards. In 1964, she returned to the stage to play Fanny Brice in the musical *Funny Girl,* earning another Tony nomination (losing to Carol Channing for a role that Barbra herself would later portray on screen in the musical *Hello, Dolly!*).
The couple secretly married in September 1963, and in 1966, they welcomed their son, Jason. In 1969, the couple separated, and two years later, they divorced. Both Barbra and Elliott have since remarried. Barbra found love with James Brolin in 1996, and they tied the knot exactly two years later and have been together ever since. Elliott married Jennifer Bogart in 1973, but they divorced in 1975. However, they remarried in 1978 before divorcing again in 1989.
