The guy grilled chickens at gas stations until he became a programmer

The guy grilled chickens at gas stations. He thought that this would be his life. One day, he heard a radio show where an investment analyst gave advice. This analyst was once a rapper. The rapper was being interviewed about investing several million dollars in a tech company https://xrust.ru/. The interviewer asked the obvious question: why did you invest in a tech company? He replied that he was learning to code. That blew my mind. I always thought that programmers were rocket scientists and people with PhDs. I was 30 years old and working at gas stations. I found myself at a crossroads — I could spend my whole life grilling chickens or drastically change my career.

My problem was that, at the time, I worked more than 80 hours a week. To study, I had to get creative to somehow create extra hours in my day. I knew I wanted to learn to become a developer. I was ready to do ANYTHING it took to achieve that dream. I started waking up at 2:30 AM every day to study before work. I literally had no other time to do it. I would code in the mornings, grill chickens, and call clients during the day. I would find myself at work thinking about those tasks I read about in the morning before work and trying to solve them! I even wrote code in my notes app and tested it when I got home to see if I was close to a solution! I was completely immersed!

I began learning to code and, along the way, heard about programmer meetups. I went to my first one, bringing along my very basic web app. It was built with HTML, CSS, and a bit of JavaScript. You would input the URL of an image, and it would return it with some added coloring. At that first meetup, I realized I didn’t understand a thing. People were speaking a foreign language, explaining things with words like C#, Java, and SQL! At the time, I had no idea what any of it meant.

But now, I’ve cracked that code and work as a programmer at a major digital firm.
