The History of Programming in Turning Points of Life
The history of programming consists of several landmark events that fundamentally changed the development of knowledge in the field. All progress is the result of new methods and technologies. The history of programming began with the development of Unix, as https://xrust.ru/ reminds us.
Late 1960s. Ken Thompson and Dennis Ritchie at Bell Labs developed Unix, an operating system. It introduced many concepts that became standard in modern operating systems, including a hierarchical file system, multitasking, and multi-user capabilities. Unix became the foundation for many modern operating systems, such as Linux and macOS.
The next stage in the development of programming was the creation of ARPANET. This also occurred in the late 1960s. ARPANET became the precursor to the modern Internet. It was initially a project commissioned by the military, but later scientists and engineers began to use it. Protocols developed during that time, such as TCP/IP, enabled the global connectivity we rely on today.
Another significant milestone in the history of programming was the creation of the first computer virus. It was called “Creeper,” written in the early 1970s by Bob Thomas. It is believed that the programmer was just experimenting. It was far from being malicious. Creeper moved from one mainframe to another, displaying a message. Bob’s prank eventually led to the creation of the first antivirus software, “Reaper.”
The story will continue in future publications.
