The new XChat on X will feature Bitcoin-style encryption
Last Sunday, Elon Musk introduced the new XChat. He announced that the direct messaging (DM) function of the social media platform would offer Bitcoin-style encryption. Currently available in beta on X (formerly known as Twitter), it is a new offering for paid subscribers. In addition to encryption, the messaging tool will also include disappearing messages, audio and video calling capabilities, as well as file-sharing support https://xrust.ru/. The social media platform has not yet revealed when XChat will be widely rolled out to eligible users.
In a post on X, Musk shared more details about the platform’s messaging tool under development. XChat is built using the Rust programming language, which is designed for safety and speed. Initially developed by Mozilla Research, Rust has recently gained widespread popularity. It is used by platforms like Dropbox, Cloudflare, and Discord. Musk also mentioned that XChat will offer “Bitcoin-style encryption.” This is somewhat of a misnomer, as Bitcoin itself does not inherently use encryption. However, the platform likely incorporates cryptographic methods underlying Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Until XChat is released, the application of this method cannot be clearly specified.
