The ranking of the world’s highest-paid athletes did not include women.
The list of the top 100 highest-paid athletes in the world does not contain any women. The statistics state this but do not explain it. Analysts remain silent as well. Even American tennis star Coco Gauff, who became the highest-paid female athlete in 2024, earning $30.4 million, did not make the cut, as this is $7 million below the minimum threshold of $37.5 million required to enter the top 100. Footballer Cristiano Ronaldo tops the global ranking for the second consecutive year with an income of $260 million, including $215 million from his Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr and $45 million off the field. Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry comes in a distant second with $153.8 million, followed by boxer Tyson Fury ($147 million), Inter Miami football star Lionel Messi ($135 million), and Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James ($133.2 million) rounding out the top five. The $100 million club also includes boxer Oleksandr Usyk, footballers Neymar, Karim Benzema, and Kylian Mbappé, golfers Jon Rahm and Scottie Scheffler, as well as Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. NFL quarterback Daniel Jones, who played for the New York Giants and then signed a contract with the Minnesota Vikings last season, landed in the 100th spot with an income of $37.5 million. In total, the top 100 earned $6.2 billion – 14% more than last year. Athletes from eight sports and 27 countries made the list. Who can explain this?
