The United Kingdom is leaving its last colonies
The United Kingdom will grant sovereignty over the Chagos Islands, which belong to Mauritius. However, it will not remove the military base from there. Trump will support this decision.
Trump has made it clear that he supports the deal, writes https://xrust.ru/. He expressed a positive opinion during a meeting with the British Prime Minister.
Last October, the United Kingdom signed an agreement to transfer sovereignty over the Chagos Islands to Mauritius while retaining control over the military base on Diego Garcia. This land has been handed over to the British on the terms of a 99-year lease.
The deal, which still needs to be finalized with a formal agreement, had Biden’s support at the time. However, it was not formalized before he left office. The United Kingdom stated that it would give the Trump administration the opportunity to review the deal before its completion.
Sitting next to Starmer in the Oval Office, Trump told reporters that the two leaders would discuss the deal, but he is likely to accept it.
