WhatsApp has been banned from being installed on devices of U.S. House of Representatives staff.

WhatsApp has been classified as a prohibited application for employees of the U.S. House of Representatives. They received an official memo with this information last Monday. WhatsApp, according to the Cybersecurity Office, is considered a high-risk application. It lacks transparency, it is unclear how data is protected, and there is no encryption for stored data. All these factors make it dangerous for users. However, employees have not been left without alternatives. The memo recommends using other applications. These include Teams, Amazon, Wickr, Signal, and Apple. Meta stated that it disagrees with this move, arguing that WhatsApp’s security is solid and even better than that of the listed competitors.
